One Single Impression: Ochre
and I would lay me down
in leaves of ochre and pine green
soft forest shadows all around
cool and misty dreams
and as the shadows grow
midnight blue and charcoal deep
fear is driven far below
enfolded in the wings of sleep
A beautifully described descent to sleep.
Thank you anthony!
Beautiful..it reminds me of a prayer we used to say when we were little..’as I lay thee down to sleep..so shall angels safely keep..'(if memory serves me right, it was many, many years ago)..Jae
Oh Jae – I remember that prayer. The next part always frightened me a little – “if I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take.”
I’d forgotten the ending! Yes, a bit frightening to a little one!
Lovely, lovely Yeatsian prayer. A beauty.
