One Word Stall

One Word: Stall

all fall
down before the god
of time
wheels and deals
and promises
goals set
deadlines met by
furious motion going
absolutely not one place
that counts but
winds blowing
all knowing we can’t stop
rolling
stay on track
busy life
of strife
of the knife edge
balanced
don’t fall
don’t stall
running on and on
the bill comes due
we got nothin
but empty pockets

Anger

Sunday Scribbling #180, Carry On Tuesday #17, Three Word Wednesday, One Word: Corner

Piled them up and this is what I sifted out, with a little inspiration from posts by Quin and Paschal.

Disarmed by
the sudden guilt
anger dissolved
this time
just now, this minute
don’t speak
but later
no grace, no forgive, give
me mayhem mr. sandman
ain’t no sleeping tonight
voices engage
the shots fire over heads and
sometimes
hit the mark
hit the heart
play a  tattoo
beating on, beating up
beaten down
the poets rhymed it
the storytellers made it
their own
we all live it
danger, falling bricks, rocks
stones and sticks
and names can hurt, can paint
themselves on our skin
til only a faded shadow scar
barely seen
but heard round the corner
round the life

Would I, Could I?

Wings_by_bigmanhaywoodSunday Scribbling prompt: Tattoo

that door slammed shut years ago
but if I could, should
would I
wings, angel
amethyst butterfly
both. one becoming if it listens
to the other
nothing big that needs
to be grown into.
not to be seen
secretly known
a reminder
the butterfly is always changing
beauty fragile
fleeting powder jewels
of shimmer color
dance in the air
no touching
damaged, thinned
bruised but still alive
trading one set of wings for another
if it glistens, listens
to the right shoulder

my spirit would

One Word Fate (need I say more)

One Word prompt: fate

Fate, stood by the side of the roadstreetsign
do you stop?
drive on by?
if the sign points one way do you
go another, the other
change anything
if you could
would you?
the arrow, the curve
the no u turn
keep off the median
no worry, no hurry
no boogie man in the shadows
whistle, you know how
pucker up and blow
dark can’t fool you
the lights are all green
keep motoring on
we all end up back at the sign

The Pause

One Word Prompt: Pause

I wrote, paused, and wrote some more

I kept playing the tape over and over again, hitting pause when it got to the part where he proposed to by best friend.  I would hit pause and stare trying to convince my eyes that they were not seeing what they were seeing but no matter what direction I tried to come at it from the truth remained.

~~~~
There it was, the pause.  Always the pause.  He would start to say I love you and she would hold her breath to listen more carefully for it.  It.  The pause. He couldn’t say the words without hesitating.  That’s how she caught him in the lie.
~~~~

Breathe.  Pause.  This is the good part.  This is the meat of the story.  Wait for it – it will come around just as surely as the music comes around on the guitar just before the singer begins. Just as surely as the leaves burst out on the branches after the frost has ended.

~~~~
She stood very still.  The wolf paused his circling and sank down in front of her.  He smiled with the eyes of , oh it can’t be.   But she knows in her heart that it is.  How can she be friends with someone who changes to this – this – thing?  And she knows in her heart that she loves him no matter what.
~~~~

This heart will beat
blood will move to hands and feet
breath will be drawn in and out
and in between each beat is a pause
the moment when the universe stops
waiting to see if life will continue
for another beat
til the next pause

~~~~
pulsing changing dancing
alive for the moment
unable to think beyond today
singing the eternal song
enabled by  hope
An Experiment
the sun sisters want to rock me
but I fell into the ocean spray time after time
I need a resolution, a remedy now
faster than the speed of sound
I ride wild horses on a mandolin wind
listening to my heartbeat
it’s a mad world at the last chance texaco
if you got the money the yellow taxi
will take you there
to feast on berries just for one minute
one word alert
I’m lazy and these hands
would write vows
but it’s too late to apologize
you had the time of your life
free falling in your wildest dreams
I will follow you into the dark
because this is how you remind me
I’m surrounded and can’t find my way
home
Carry On Tuesday #1
The prompt at brand new Carry On Tuesday is:
A cloudless night like this
Can set the spirit soaring
and so I rise again
to where I can hear the stars
The silky surface of the moon
glides past and no
galaxies hold me
No weighty bones or flesh
just gentle breath
and icy heat of space and time
Like a river to an ocean to
the edge of it all
flowing through, above, beyond
til morning sunlight shafts
bring stars home again
Sunday Scribbling: Confession 2 (not a story)
Confess they say and I say yes
I think that I should indeed confess
but not to you, just to my God
Who knows my heart and yet loves no less
You don’t own me and you don’t  own God
in fact if stumbling you should cause
Then before you are lain beneath the sod
Turn your angry eyes on your own flaws
I’m free you see because my sins
The Father has cast into the sea
And in the end when the world is made new
That sea is gone and my God wins
My soul is His, I freely give
Just as he died, so I could live
As If I lived like him I’m loved
So I turn from you to Him above
This may sound a bit angry.  I read a lot of things about confession this week that just trouble me so here is my thought on confession as it pertains to being a Christian.  Just my thought…
I think confession is necessary.  I think you confess your sins to God.  I think you confess to Him that you are a sinner and there is no way you can be made right without Him.  This isn’t shame – it’s freedom.  Freedom from constantly feeling as if you don’t measure up, because you don’t.  No one does and never will of their own.  It’s Jesus who does the work that takes away our sin.
We confess to God because it’s the first step to repenting or turning down another path.  We confess and then we turn to Him.  In that turning is forgiveness and restoration – we are restored to Him.  We are Justified.  Just as if I’d never sinned.  Do you get that?
Read the two scriptures below.
Micah 7:19
19 He will again have compassion on us, And will subdue our iniquities.
You will cast all our sins Into the depths of the sea.
Revelation 21
1And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
They.  Are.  Gone.
I love that
Earth Speaks
The prompt at Sunday Scribbling this week is Language.
Language. What we use to communicate. Different languages (how many do you speak?), exotic alphabets. Language can be a barrier and it can be what connects us, what elevates us above animals. We use it to tell stories, to profess love, to record events, to function in just about every conceivable way, and even to curse at each other. What do you have to say about it?
Earth Speaks
Crack in the pavement
Tiny green
sun like the tongue of a mother cat
licking the kitten’s face
draws it to itself, upward
like the kitten or a child
tiny green reaches for the sun
birds call to it, singing breathe
in younger times earth called my feet
the song spoke to me
go out and up to the sun
the wind and the sky
took me
I lost the language
though I still hear the music
other feet
now go and I remain
longing not for a place even then
nor leaving
answering the earth to go, to grow
but I remember
